From farmhouse kitchens to rustic cabin ceilings, wood paneling has been a popular design trend since our parents or grandparents first slapped faux wood on the walls of their shag-carpeted basement rec rooms. These days it often gets lumped under the term “shiplap,” but that’s not quite accurate.
Shiplap is a specific design of wall paneling where the individual pieces tuck together in an overlapping pattern. It was originally used for water-tight walls in ship building, and the pieces overlap – Ship + Lap = Shiplap.
Another popular style of wall paneling is tongue and groove (T&G). As you can imagine, the edges of this style of board are either a tongue bit or a groove the perfectly fits the tongue of the next piece. The individual boards slide/snap together, leaving a little seam between boards. This seam can be small, like a nickel gap, or designed wider like a V-joint.

Wall paneling comes in a multitude of materials and finishes. It really sets the tone for a space, whether as an accent wall, wainscoting, or siding for a fixture like a bar. Country Lumber has stocked T&G pine and cedar for years, but we’re finding that with all the options out there, most orders these days are brought in special to meet customer specifications. Because of this, we’re discontinuing our stock and offering a rock bottom price to clear out what we have on hand.
